Beware of the Men in Neon-Green!

Two weeks ago, the legendary, almost non-existent police of Stavanger magically appeared like Batman in the night this morning while we were driving back from a Sunday walk to kleppe. We couldn't miss the fluorescent-green vests while they were waving random cars to the side of the road. My husband suddenly checked my seatbelt and our son sitting at the back of the car (sleeping at that time) if he's also wearing a seatbelt... answered is YES!!! So, my husband doesn't have any clue what could be his offence. I thought it must be serious if there is an army of three, when I have never even encountered one law-enforcer!

Our red volvo was a chosen "offender" and we scrambled to find license, registration and any other official forms they may want, wondering what on earth we did! Our turn approached as the cars in front of us went on their way, and we couldn't comprehend our sudden run-in with the law. The police told my husband that he needs to leave the car because of the violation he committed, 'driving a car with a tinted window'. He explained to the police that he just bought the car. After inspecting, I think the police feel sorry for my 2 years old son sleeping at the back so he just told my husband that after he removed the tinted color of our window on the front seat, that's the only time we can leave.

Car safety is EXTREMELY strict in Norway. Always, ALWAYS wear your seatbelt, even on short rides, never ever ever ever drive after you’ve been drinking one beer or more, do not speed under any circumstances, never drive on red light, it is mandatory to stop for pedestrians that are crossing the roads, no matter if it is a crossroad or not. The pedestrians have the precedence in every situation. Do take the car safety seriously, cause here is what it might cost you:
1. Driving while talking in cell phone $400:
2. Speeding 5 km/h (aprox.3 mph): $300
3. Speeding 20 km/h (aprox. 12 mph): $9000 + mandatory five days in jail + loss of drivers license for three years
4. Speeding 25 km/h (aprox. 16 mph):and more: $16000 + mandatory 30 days in jail + permanently loss of drivers license 5. Drive on red light, not wearing seatbelt, not stop for pedestrians, driving without giving sign, not use mandatory safety equipment for children under the age of 12 (special seat and seatbelts), ignoring signs: $1200
5. Driving with ‰ 0.2-0.5: your monthly payment x 2 + loss of drivers license for 1 year. ‰ 0.5 <: your monthly payment for 12 months + permanently loss of drivers’ license + minimum 90 days mandatory jail.
